Mount Batukaru

Mount Batukaru stands at 2,276 meters above sea level, making it Balis second-highest mountain. Unlike the more frequented Mount Batur and Mount Agung, Batukaru offers a less crowded and more pristine trekking experience through dense tropical rainforests. The ascent typically begins near Pura Luhur Batukaru, an ancient temple situated on the mountains southern slopes. The trail is known for its challenging terrain, with steep and slippery sections, and is less defined due to infrequent use. Hikers are advised to hire licensed local guides to navigate the path safely, as the area is less developed for tourism. The summit often experiences cloud cover, limiting panoramic views; however, on clear days, trekkers can enjoy vistas of Balis landscape. The mountain is considered sacred, and annual pilgrimages are made by locals to honor its spiritual significance.
