Pura Luhur Batukaru

Pura Luhur Batukaru, originally constructed in the 11th century, is one of Balis nine directional temples, serving to protect the island from evil spirits. Dedicated to Mahadewa, the deity of Mount Batukaru, the temple features a prominent seven-tiered meru (shrine). Surrounded by lush tropical forests and situated at an altitude of approximately 1,300 meters, the temple offers a serene and mystical ambiance. Visitors are required to wear sarongs and sashes as a sign of respect, which are typically included in the entrance fee. Certain areas of the temple are restricted during ceremonies, reflecting its active role in local spiritual practices.
